The two of them did most of the slides except the ones that Mason was too short for and we all had a riot.
This spring I won two passes to the Water Park. I play the odd contest on our local radio station 89.5 The Hawk. But it took all summer before I could get the weather and the two boys to get into sinc and off we went. Josh was working, Mason was into something or Jude and I were away...or something or other. But finally we got our act together. It wasn't the warmest day but the park closes next week and all the rest of the days this week we are all doing something again. We did it. Josh got most of the heavy duty stuff to do while I watched. We did go on the Colossal Canyon though and that made me scream like a gurl. Well almost. A fun day topped off by a visit to the A&W .. where the non teens both had a Teen Burger and the only teen had a Mozza.

We did Kelowna on the weekend and as usual on our return we get off the beaten path a bit if we can. We could and did.. after going over the connector between Peachland and Merrit we came across the two lane road through the Nicola Valley from Merritt out to Spences Bridge on Hwy#1. Then down along the Thompson through the Fraser Canyon. That stretch of the Thompson has a booming business of Rafting. On a warm summer day there were lots out on the river. It was over 30 C in the Canyons as we travelled through. Some changes we noticed. There is no Gas available now in Spences Bridge..the place is almost empty but there is a plus $400,000 native Memorial Centre near there. Most of the old Tourtista places through the Fraser Canyon are closed. But the small communities are showing signs of population increases and or new houses. And a few new restaurants have opened.but mostly every thing was closed. Hwy#1 is in good shape with lots of passing lanes and we only faced a few miles in lines of slow moving vehicles. Nothing there has changed much..people that are concerned about the curves and tunnels or do not know the road at all still pass up most opportunities to use pull offs to let the long line behind them get on with the posted speed. Somethings will never change. When we hit the Freeway at Rosedale after using Hwy #7 down the north side of the Fraser from just North of Hope we found the freeway FULL. Slower for no apparent reasons sometimes to only 60 K. Glad we took the side trip. Happy Anniversary Dear 1967 wasn't that long ago.............. was it? Centennial year in Canada and we got married. The Maple Leafs won the Stanley cup and Lester Pearson was the Prime Minister. We are in Kelowna today for our annual visit to Uncle Kennif's Pool. Cool yesterday but the start to today looks like we may have hit the jackpot up here once again. A BBQ around the pool tonight to celebrate is on order and some shopping of course. More new shoes. Ok yah..gas cost 33 Cents a gallon and a new house was around $14,000 back in '67 does that mean those were the good old days ??
Hot and heavy non stop action at camp This is how we used to end our summers. Hockey camp somewhere with somebody. I get itchy still. I really need the smell of Zamboni fumes to get ready for the fall and a new season. I hate when summer is no more but the fumes get me by in the off months. Now I don't want you to take me wrong here. I do follow the NHL and everyone knows I'm an "Old" Leaf fan...but for years now it's been Junior Hockey or actually Jr. A Hockey that I have enjoyed the most. You say there is a difference? Well yes, sure there is.. Jr. Hockey is the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) or out west the WHL, affectionately know as the DUB. We had a taste of that league here for 5 yrs. but as so often happens in sport that franchise came and went. It's big time money and the usual way for most Canadian kids to get into pro. Jr. A is the same aged kids playing as amateurs in the eyes of the US University and colleges and meets the rules of NCAA scholarships. Jr. hockey and the CHL teams do not. Not as much money floating around and the kids get basic room and board supplied by the teams. I say kids but there are a few 20 yr. olds playing on each team and there could be as many as six. Anyhow that's your lesson for today. Onto our local team: the Chilliwack Chiefs. Coached by our friend Harvey Smyl, brother to the former player Stan Smyl of the Vancouver Canucks. Harvey coached Chris yrs ago in Williams Lake BC when Chris played Jr. We have season tickets and we really enjoy watching the kids at that level work to be the best they can. It's great hockey to watch fast and tough and generally these days without too much violence. (not that I don't mind a good scrap now and then) This is the second year that the team has been back in Chilliwack this time around and we are all excited about the upcoming season and what the team will look like. A lot more time to plan for this season should mean a better core of skaters to start the season off and the fact we have 11 players coming back is a bonus also. I was impressed with the scrimmages that I have seen so far and can't wait for the season home opener on the 15th of September.
When you have a "Job" you have obligations. I assume that since you are still working you need to or perhaps have a requirement for those Rectangular pieces of paper (well plastic now in Canada) that the government makes. Regardless you go or do whatever it is that you have to or must do to call yourself a worker.
When you don't have to work you may call yourself "Retired". Ever think of that word really. Re-tired ? Maybe you go get a new tread on... or something with this official definition involved ? re- prefix 1 once more; afresh; anew : reaccustom | reactivate. • with return to a previous state : restore | revert. 2 (also red-) in return; mutually : react | resemble. • in opposition : repel | resistance. 3 behind or after : relic | remain. • in a withdrawn state : recluse | reticent. • back and away; down : recede | relegation. 4 with frequentative or intensive force : redouble | resound. 5 with negative force : rebuff | recant. A lot of those may apply to my circumstances...NOT ! Anyways I took yesterday off. Yes you can do that a lot when you are retired. Just bummed around, surfed a bit, added a few pictures to the site, went shopping twice, (forgot the milk) made a new salad for summer and relaxed. I needed a break. Why? Cause I could. So that's what I did |
